Watermelon nails!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!!

Got my hair cut today! Decided to change things up a bit and got a block fringe. :)

For everyone asking, I dye my hair with Henna! It’s 100% natural, made from plants, and gives a fantastic colour. What’s more, it doesn’t damage your hair – it actually conditions it – and gives it a beautiful shine!

My natural hair is a mousy light brown colour, but Henna makes it a luscious dark red. It’s unbelievably inexpensive (£4 a box!), although if a little messy to put on.. I fully recommend it to anyone who wants red hair in great condition!

I last dyed my hair with Henna about 6 weeks ago, so the colour isn’t that strong at the moment, it needs doing again soon. :)

Reassuming Blue

Rows of daisies, pick just a few
Grasp their necks and dye them blue
Wilting cornflowers bleeding dye
A declaration beyond goodbye.
Liquorice lingers under my tongue
The hope of hearing words unsung.
Smoke billows from between my teeth
Hiding tar and oak and pine beneath
Ransom my lungs, Poison perfume
The wilted cornflowers begin to bloom
A finger sliding down my cheek,
A touch quite new, a thought antique.
A drop of blue falls on the snow
This is hot, I think you know.

Push me open into borrowed light
Pose questions through my mouth
Sweat sweet sweep under the caution
I’d love to hear that song played white.

Autumn’s grasping her lover prince
But resin lingers under fingernails
Crying mustard tears into coffee-cups
It’s not me they’re trying to convince.

You know sweet red means I believe
So please don’t shred your symmetry
Pin me against champagne floored tiles,
And wrap daisy chains around my sleeve.

Petrol, Beauty. Oxymoron?

A petrol leak in a car park on a rainy day.

How can something so damaging to the environment, so harmful and poisonous, something that pollutes our world and condemns our future generations, how can something so awful be so… beautiful?

Funky Jazz Nails!

Can’t believe I just used the word funky.. Haven’t heard that in so long! Reminds me of 70s disco music..

Anyway, just a quick nail design I did.. I went to a jazz night on Friday, been part of it for the last few years, it’s always a great night. Not usually a fan of jazz music, but it’s usually a mixed bunch, bit of everything really.

This was the first year I didn’t perform though! I just didn’t have the time to find something decent to play, and having CFS recently means I just don’t have energy to play at the moment. :(

“Behind every gifted woman, there’s often a rather talented cat.”

I was reluctant to put that as the title, because it sounds like I’m declaring myself to be “gifted”! My mum bought me a postcard with the above quote, which is now happily stuck on my wall. I’m certainly not gifted but I do have a wonderful kitty at my side.

This blog is quickly turning into a Casper photography collection..

In other news, it’s snowing today! First snow of the year!

Being in England of course, ‘snow’ means pathetic little fluffy flakes that gently fall on the ground and melt, with the occasional one settling.. None of those hardcore American winters that I grew up with, with the epic snowmen we used to make, the hours spent sledging, the excitement of being ‘snowed in’ for days on end.

I’m a bit of a Scrooge with snow recently though. I really hate being cold, and unfortunately cold tends to go hand-in-hand with snow. Snow is beautiful though, no one can deny that. (Obviously not counting old snow that crumbles and goes brown and sludgy, of course.)

A visit from Mr. Heron.

Went down to the canal earlier today, and met a beautiful heron who decided to share his morning with me, and pose beautifully for some photos.

I’ve developed a habit of editing photos. Although I’m certainly no professional, and I know many disapprove of photo editing (apart from the odd sharpen), I feel it enables me to make a photo into my own. I love trying to make a photo into a form of abstract art, or into a more vintage style, creating something new and interesting.. often making it as far away from the original as possible. I can spend hours editing just one photo.. Much more fun. :)

Bella Luna..

“Mystery the moon
A hole in the sky
A supernatural nightlight
So full but often right”

Drew this on Patrick the iPad yesterday.. Inspired by a beautiful song by Jason Mraz, Bella Luna. Not one of my favourite songs of his, but wonderful nonetheless. Oh his voice gets me every time..

“Bella luna, my beautiful, beautiful moon
How you swoon me like no other..”

“You are an illuminating anchor
Of leagues to infinite number
Crashing waves and breaking thunder
Tiding the ebb and flows of hunger
You’re dancing naked there for me
You expose all memory
You make the most of boundary
You’re the ghost of royalty imposing love
You are the queen and king combining everything”

Ladyburg nails!

Growing up in America, these adorable red-and-black insects were introduced to me as “ladybugs“.

When I moved back to England however, I discovered they were known as “ladybirds“.

To this day, I have never understood why this difference has come about, however I have settled on calling them “ladyburgs“.

Best of both worlds, I think.

Anyway, I painted some lovely ladyburgs on my nails. Hope you like! :)
